The spectacular Marafa Depression, also known as Hell’s Kitchen, is a sandstone canyon outside of Malindi, Kenya. 
It is locally known as Nyari – “the place broken by itself 
Geologists – It was once a great sandstone ridge worn by wind, rain, and floods into a series of jagged gorges. 
Giriama Legend – there was once a town here. One day, the inhabitants received a vision telling them to leave. Everyone moved except one woman. The abandoned town vanished with her, leaving the depression in its place.
Spectacular sight – a well-kept secret of the Kenyan Coast. 
Its colours are magical at sundown – layers of whites, pinks, oranges, and deep crimsons 
The depression attracts close to 100 visitors per day and is a major contributor to the local economy. 
Walking in the canyon can challenges – loose rocks. It is also hot.
A marvelous wonder of creation that local children use as a playground.
